Analyze disk space with ncdu

NCurses Disk Usage, or ncdu for short, is a graphical disk space analyzer:

Why you should use it

It's incredibly fast
It's available on every environment
You can delete files directly within the app
You can limit your search to one filesystem with -x (no /dev, etc)

Where you should use it

While I regularly use ncdu on my Mac, ncdu shines on servers. More than once I found myself with a hard drive close to full and no idea why? ncdu allowed me to scan the disk, find the source of the problem and fix it, all within minutes. Often times the issue was a renegade process creating huge amounts of data at a totally unexpected place, and finding the culprit without the "drill-down" approach of ncdu would have amounted to searching a needle in a haystack.

So now, I make sure it's installed on every server I work with. You never know when you will need it to save the day.
